Next plc (styled as next) is a British multinational clothing, footwear and home products retailer, headquartered in Enderby, Leicestershire. It has around 700 stores, of which circa 500 are in the United Kingdom, and circa 200 across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Next is the largest clothing retailer by sales in the United Kingdom, having overtaken Marks & Spencer in early 2012 and 2014.
A former manager says, "I was a deputy manager [at Next] and you were basically the whipping boy for the store manager. I had days off swapped at short notice when I had plans, not much training, questioned why tasks hadn’t been done despite very few staff and generally was given the work that the manager didn’t want to do. Would not recommend."
Current Employee - Human Resources Team says"They lied about the hours, instead of working part time your required to work from 8am-7:30pm mon-fri to make at best 400$ a week instead of $700-1500 posted. You need to chat in person with 100 people a day in person. You will be working at best buy selling cable packages. It's easy to get hired into the company but most employees get laid off the first week or two."
Former Employee - Womenswear Sales Assistant says"Little to no training or support from management, on my second week I was the most trained person on womenswear in a large store. At this point my computer account wasn't activated to process returns and there was not manager to be seen. Pays their staff the minimum wage, which they are expected to make up with incentivised goals- such as collecting parcels from the parcel room in under 2 minutes (including the older lady that was forced to run from across the store to be able to do this) + company purposely give contracts of 4/6 guaranteed hours a week, to allow them more flexibility at the cost of giving their workers no job security. Overall unfriendly work culture, everyone miserable. When I handed my resignation in after 5 weeks, I was told management wouldn't care because they have such a ridiculously high turnover of staff anyway."
Former Employee - Software Tester says"Terriblely organised, running regression tests every day manually rather than automating it , Bullyish managers who think they can talk down to employees who arent in their clique Management appear to do very little while employees are busting their butts to finish an insane workload. No clue about the importance of automation and frankly managers who dont understand automation properly, not using agile or any discernible methodology , its a mess really."

Picker (Former Employee) says"I worked at next for about 6 months and had nothing but constant grief and stress. The managers are rude and completely selfish and don’t care if you are struggling or have a problem. They set you targets that are just impossible to reach and then explain that it is your own fault. They would demand me to work extra hours unpaid and give you no time to get some food and sit down and have a 10 minute break and simply tell you that you shouldn’t go to the canteen. Please avoid this place at all cost! Cons: Rude managers, long unpaid hours"

Retail Assistant / Stock Control (Former Employee) says"The newer staff like myself were required to run around like headless chickens to restock the shelves and also receive the stock from the lorries whilst the full time staff sat around in the stock room messing around, hiding from management and also, Management would always, without fail, get peoples rotors mixed up and wrong so staff would travel in to get to work and then be told they weren't needed and so had to travel back home. Cons: Long Hours, Management mixing my days up and so I would turn up to shift and they then say I wasn't needed."

Former Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) says"I would rather be a toilet attendant than work for these jokers. Keep away they treat you appalingly. Transport office has to be one of the worst places I have ever worked. Disaplinary taking out on you for the slightest thing. Lots of backstabbers willing to make life difficult. Ten infringments in a year they show you the door. They cannot retain drivers that's why they are always advertising. Keep away is my advice. Cons: non"

For about 1 month now I have either been underpaid massively example £15 for 14.5 hours work and sometimes not being paid at all. DO NOT WORK HERE. Delivery Team Member (Former Employee) says"During my time here the managers were hardly seen. The training was unorganised and one particular manager would talk about staff behind their backs. Most staff members were friendly. The mangers didn't disclose that a colleague tested positive for covid. I refused to work, went and got a test and I tested positive. I would have been a silent covid spreader due to their ignorance, they do not take covid seriously. I had a 3 month contract, spent the last week isolating, have not had one phone call to ask how I am etc. I received my p45 and final payslip in the post, that was my final contact after everything. Cons: Absolutely everything"

Packer (Former Employee) says"Started here in September as made redundant from my job. I honestly don’t know how this place has the stars it has. Poor management, hard targets to hit and unsure whether you’re job is safe. Feel like a child at school. Security staff think that they’re the police and have a god awful attitude. Unless you work nights the pay for during the day is very, very poor and cannot get by on it. They expect full time staff to work 12 hours.Luckily I have a new job and will be leaving in a few weeks. But my 6 months here has been the worst and I would not recommend to anyone unless you’re absolutely desperate for a job. Cons: Everything"

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) says"Learning about the job and training is based on keeping your eyes open and training was via the computer. You were expected to carry the extra workload when people were off sick or staff numbers were cut. Very seldom were you recognised for doing a good job but if there was a problem you knew about it. Felt very undervalued. Moral amongst staff very low. Cons: Did not get paid breaks. Minimum wage. All positions were part time apart from managers."

Finance (Former Employee) says"old fashioned culture, there is no ERP, all work is on spreadsheets. As a result people work long hours spent on inefficient processes. Also management culture is very segregated from the rest of the team, little interaction between seniors and more junior staff in the finance department."
Sales Assistant (Part-time) says"A typical day in work is being bossed around by mangers who don’t give a f about you or your circumstances and only care about deadlines. As a student I was over worked so much but not even paid what I was suppose to be paid. NOT TO MENTION the fact that when I left they didn’t even PAY HOLIDAY PAY to me ,eventhough I took two days this year they still deducted money from my last pay check. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. WHEN I TRIED TO ASK ABOUT IT they said I was not even entitled to claim ANY HOLIDAY. This pandemic has been hard enough but for them to not even give me one single penny of holiday pay makes me fuming at this company. I WAS TREATED LIKE A ROBOT TO BE INSTRUCTED AS AN WHEN THEY WANTED TO USE ME. Cons: Management issues"
